Telephone Collections are an essential tool in the debt collection process. After all of the information about a debt has been collected, often the first step in the debt collection process is to make a telephone call to the debtor asking them why they haven’t paid the debt that you are trying to collect. In a telephone collection call, a debtor will often give excuses for not paying such as I can’t afford it, that they don’t actually owe the money or that they haven’t received any notification of the need to pay the amount. The reason that is it important that the debt collector have all of the appropriate information available for a telephone collection is that this will enable the debt collector to counter any excuses that the debtor might have for not paying. For instance, if the collector can see that notification of the debt has been sent three times already, the debt collector can then challenge the debtor’s claims to have not been notified and make it more likely that if they can pay, they will because they will be left without an excuse to give. Often the most important aspect of speaking to a debtor is to overcome all of the reasons that they have for not paying a particular debt.
Although there is a relatively high rate of success for telephone collections, if it does not succeed then formal debt collection letters, such as payment reminder letters and letters of final demand are the next step in the process. We obviously offer both services here at Australian Debt Recovery Services and we are more than happy to help with any inquiries which you might have about the debt collection process, telephone collections, debt collection letters of the legal proceedings which can become necessary in a debt collection matter.
