If the debt is very large or the debt owed by someone that is very stubborn, dishonest, or disputes the liability of the debt then it is likely that debt collection lawyer will be needed. Basically once you get past the stage of a letter of demand being required you are going to have to sue the debtor.

The legal processes that you should hire a debtor for are to issue a statement of claim, enforce a judgment debt or pursue insolvency proceedings. Insolvency proceedings are when a company goes into liquidation or when a person becomes bankrupt. Generally, the definition of insolvency is when a debtor is unable to pay their debts as and when they fall due and payable.
